20 Blog Post Ideas (That will get you out of your rut)

Will help you get out of your rut and work through your writers block

It is easy to get into a rut when you are a blogger. There is always the challenge of presenting fresh new content that will still appeal to your average audience. So I compiled a list of 20 blog post ideas to help you get a good quality post up even when your imagination/inspiration is not there.

Quotes sure to inspire.

As you may have noticed I missed a week of blogging. This is because my anxiety has been the worst it has ever been. While I am not going to go into it, I decided to bring back my Top Pinterest Picks by choosing my top 10 favorite inspirational quotes. Hopefully this will help you put things into perspective (and help me too).

This Top Pinterest Picks was definitely the hardest for me because I  am a sucker for quotes. I believe that if I read it enough I can start living it and change my life forever. Well this hasn't happened (yet?), but I take a lot of time in choosing my quotes so I love them all. But I challenged myself to narrow it down to 10.

Promoting Your Blog Made Easy| K-Du Jour

Simple tips to gain a MASSIVE following

I usually wouldn't this kind of post because I am a strong believer in doing something you love; not for the fame and fortune. That being said I know it can sometimes be frustrating. Frusturating in the sense that you may in fact love what you do, but you want to share it with the World. This isn't the easiest thing. Although it is important not to gloat it can be important to self promote and here are some ways that will make it easier.

Favorites| K-Du Jour

I have been having a bad day today. As you may know I have pretty bad anxiety and that spans throughout the whole summer worrying of losing time and that school will eventually reign down its terror once again. You may be thinking this does not sound like a favorites post, but my mom has told me "Don't dwell on the negative, think about the positive." It sounds easy enough, but instead I find myself pretending to be positive on the outside (most days)and inside, conjuring up every possible scenario that could go wrong. So I am trying very hard with this and decided to do a post about my favorites even though I feel like...

Anyway, I did one of these before for April, but there has been such a huge gap that I am just calling it my favorites because there is not a clear month it all belongs to.

Change.

Where have I been? Would you believe me if I told you I was in the middle of a a forest surrounded by mountains in Colorado. Well whether you do or do not, that is exactly where I have been for the past 8 days, completely cut off and I loved it!

August Birchbox Unboxing (The BEST Box I Have Ever Gotten)

One of my favorite times of the month is when my Birchbox arrives. And no I am definitely not sponsored to say this, but I just love trying out new products without "paying" for it. My birthday is close to Christmas so when I got presents it is consolidated into one time period, when I was little I thought it was great! My little 8 year old self would say, "what I don't get for Christmas I will get for my birthday!" Although it didn't really work like that, I now find myself lusting over things and products I want throughout the year and telling myself..wait until Christmas or your birthday, and end up forgetting half of the stuff I want. Its a vicious cycle! So I guess what I am trying to say in this super unneccesarily long snobbish paragraph is that it is like a birthday present every month. Yes I could have simply put it at that, but today I am really in the mood to write/blog and I am trying to test your reading limits...if you made it this far, CONGRATULATIONS you have the whole rest of the blog post to read. (and I put the congratulations in caps so that you would reach the end hehe!)

Trend Alert: Box Bags

Dolce & Gabbana
I have a new trend alert for you that will make you the most fashionable girl (or boy) this fall...the box bag! The box bag is precisely what it sounds like,a four dimensional purse. If you read my purse essentials post you may have seen that I have a box bag, but that is before I even knew they were growing in popularity (pat on my back). That purse was from forever 21 so it goes to show you don't need high end to rock the streets in style. But in this post I decided to share some of my favorite box bags for you and some tips on styling them (even though it all depends on the type you choose).

Today is the last day of the July-t-ful Du Jour series so I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support and for over 100 followers!! I remember when I first started blogging, I  checked my page views everyday and would be estatic when 1 person accidentally stumbled upon my own little realm that I created for myself.

MOM JEANS?!?!| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 14

I have seen it more and more and I am sure you have too...we can't pretend it is not creeping its way out of the old dusty pile of fashion faux pas, that is not hauntingly cuter than it seemed when we were kids, the fact that we have to admit mom actually does know best. All the rumors, the fears, and gut wrenching admittance is true there is a new jean trend in town, one scarier than the rest, MOM JEANS (duhn, duhn, duhn)!!

Who Wore It Better?| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 12

One of my favorite fashion related "games" is 'Who Wore it Better?' It is the perfect way to see each individual person's style. So I decided to search for some celebrities caught wearing the same outfits (Horrible, I know!) and am going to play my own game of 'Who Wore it Better' with you!

Ashley Green vs. Kim Kardashian
See celebrities battle it out on http://k-dujour.blogspot.com
I have to say I am going with Ashley on this one. Kim decided to go for the daring choice of wearing no slip underneath the see-through lace dress, although I appreciate the guts, I much rather prefer the more elegant and conservative look of the black slip underneath Ashley's dress. She didn't completely loose the sex appeal though she used its potential by letting her arms and bottom half of her legs to peek through. The pointed toe versus the stripy heel of Kim's yellow heels gives a more elongating effect to the midi dress. Although I am not a personal fan of Kim's shoes it is ok to wear it with her outfit because although the ankle length would make you look shorter with the slip without the slip you don't loose any height since you can still see her legs.

Basebal Caps are Hitting it Out of the Park| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 11

Baseball caps seem to be making its way past the field and into the fashion world. More and more our feminine clothing is taking a more masculine route we know about boyfriend jeans, but here we are introducing baseball caps. The clue to rock them is to add it with a contrasting high end feminine outfit to accomplish the ultra glam look. All the inspiration that you'll need is in this post (ok maybe not all, but how much do you really need.)

Everything You Need To Know When Styling Patterns| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 10

Sorry it has taken me so long to post this, but I have been driving for the past two days and at the moment I am in Montreal. The wifi in my other hotel wasn't working on my laptop, so I couldn't get a post up. But today I am going to post about pairing patterns with patterns. When I was little for Christmas I got a fashion magazine making kit. I remember one of the articles I wrote with markers and glitter was about how it would be a fashion disaster if you mix patterns. But now I know that you CAN mix patterns together, but keep in mind these simple if you follow these simple steps. Luckily I found a whole board dedicated to mixing patterns on Kelly R.'s pinterest board.

Top Pinterest Picks Hairstyles| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 8

On the first day of July-t-ful Du Jour I introduced the Top Pinterest Picks series with my top fashion picks. Today I am going to go through my beauty board and pick my top favorites! But since my beauty board is a combination of hairstyles, makeup, nail art and hacks, I condensed this post into my top favorite hairstyles and will do a separate one for makeup looks and so on.

July Birchbox Unboxing| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 7

Today I came home to the sweet surprise that my Birchbox had arrived earlier than expected. So I set the other post I had planned for today aside and decided to do an unboxing + first impressions for July-t-ful Du Jour Day 7. I have been subscribed to Birchbox since january, and it is basically a company where they send you 5 sample sized products every month in a decorative box. The cute patterns and colors of the box are almost as good as the products inside, ok that might be just because I am a sucker when it comes to cute boxes and magazines. I hoard decorative boxes and piles of magazines in my room, and I get both of them every month...you can see the problem with that. Well lets just get into it!

Bloggers You Need to Check Out| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 6

For some reason this intro has been so difficult for me to write I think I am just overtired and overthinking. But I will push through and try my best! I think the problem is there is not much to say I love writing blog posts, but I equally love reading others. We all share the same passion more or less and it is interesting to see the different perspectives of each blogger/artist(at least for me it is). It is also great to get inspiration for future posts especially when I am doing one every other day now. So here are my top 5 not so guilty reads...

Models Back In the Spotlight| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 5

The question once asked was how did magazine covers change from models to celebrities? But this is no longer the case with models popping up on not only magazines, but people's everyday conversations. Know the names Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid, or Karlie Kloss? Now how about Daphne Groeneveld, Jessica Hart, or Caroline Brasch Neilsen? Even if you may know all of them, chances are the first three ring a bell a lot quicker. The reason why is based on model's popularity of the time period, the second three were part of a list compiled of the top models in 2010. During this time models didn't have that big of a role in the public eye. So the new question is, how and why have the models climbed back to the top and become more involved with the public eye?

The Hottest Bathing Suit Trends to Rule the Pool This Summer| July-t-ful Du Jour day 4

Sorry this post is a little late today I was working on a different one for today, but I really want time to work on it a little more so I don't post something that is not the best I can do especially for the next one I am working on. But it will be up the next day of the July-t-ful Du Jour series. Instead today I will share the top bathing suit trends for the hot days of summer. Unfortunately I have been busy So I haven't had the chance to go to a beach or pool. But when I was looking at swimsuits I noticed they had some modest components to it, which I am personally a fan of. You seemed to like my last post where I shared my favorite pictures of people styling Birkenstocks so I decided to do the same with my favorite bathing suits this summer.

Birkenstocks| July-t-ful Du Jour day 3

I have been seeing Birkenstocks popping up on youtube and circling in pinterest (it is obnoxious how much I mention this site). There is a classic saying with these "ugly ducklings," you either love them or you hate them. How you feel about them is your own business, but I have started a poll over on my google+ page and am interested in the results. If you are one that is all for Birkenstocks here are some of my favorite examples to use as inspiration!

Skincare Routine| July-t-ful Du Jour Day 2

When I did my announcement for July-t-ful Du Jour I mentioned that I wanted to branch off a little from strictly fashion so I decided to fulfill that today with my skincare routine. I tried to include a majority of the products I use in the morning and night, I am pretty sure I included everything except for perfume and deodorant, haha. I hope you enjoy this break from routine(with a routine)!

Top Pinterest Picks | July-t-ful Du Jour Day 1

I am so excited for the first post of July-t-ful Du Jour, if you are completely lost on what I am talking about check out my last post which explains it all. In this post I am introducing a series I like to call my Top pinterest picks. In this series I will go through my Pinterest boards and pick my top picks from some them (pretty self explanatory). I go through phases with pinterest where I will not go on for a couple months and other times where I go on multiple times a day. I have been a bit obsessed with it lately so I have 660 fashion pins(you have no idea how many times I had to update this in the course of writing this post) alone to choose from! Nonetheless I will challenge myself and pick my top 10!

Welcoming July-t-ful Du Jour

I know this post is a little out of the ordinary, but it will be super short I promise! Since I have time off from school during the summer I thought I would introduce something new to my blog! I have had this idea for the longest time and am so happy I am-ful Du Jour (it was about as creative as I was going to get with the name). Usually I post once a week on my blog, but for July-t-ful Du Jour I will post every other day in July. I have had this idea for the longest time and am so happy I am being able to fulfill it. Since it is so frequent it lets me get out all of the ideas that have been swarming in my head. So expect more creative projects and even topics that branch off from strictly fashion. I will post on possibly travel, beauty, confidence, etc. etc. I am so excited I am getting a chance to do this and I hope you are too! Let me know in the comments if there is a topic you would like to see me explore during July-t-ful Du Jour. It will launch on the first day of July and I will do a post on every odd day after that, thanks for your support & everything you do even if it is a tiniest little comment, subscribing, or reading my content. I appreciate it all!!

XOXO,

The Best Sunglasses for your Face Shape

I feel like every post i do after my last one will be a little hypocritical, but the point was not to completely ignore trends. I love following fashion and getting inspiration, but the point was to wear what you feel confident in and what you truly love. Anyway since the first day of summer was yesterday you are going to be wearing sunglasses a lot more often this season. They not only provide instant protection against those damaging UV rays (Wow I actually sound like I know something), but they also provide that extra umph that makes you look like you are a badass. But really you just stay home watching netflix all day and only actually go outside (outside I know shocking)to take a instagram to make it look like you are having the best summer of your life. But who knew that you could look even better with a sunglass shape that is a perfect fit for your money maker, your face. The shape of your face can determine the difference between 40 likes and 500,000,000 likes (not really but lets just go with it), so what are you waiting for, probably for me to stop typing this intro so lets get started!

How the Voice of Fashion Changed

My last blog post is evident to where I have been for the past 3 weeks, but I am finally free and ready to start posting on schedule again(every weekend). I have done a couple posts already of how fashion has changed and been influenced over time because I find it so interesting. But I never truly focused on the cause for this turnover.

Even before the beautiful creation of the internet people looked up to others in the spotlight on how to act. Why? Although I am guilty of it myself I can't understand why. Is it because we think of them as our role model even if we haven't met him or her before. Or do we believe in being like them we too will gain success

How To Survive Finals Week (Without Looking Like it)+DIYs

I know most of you are in the same boat as me right now I have Regents, SAT subject tests, and finals all packed into June. These hectic last couple of weeks makes it difficult to juggle studying and free time, and almost impossible to look presentable on top of that. Of course no one is going to care what you look like on most days, but I know I don't want to look like I just rolled out of bed (even if I did). In order to overcome this challenge here are a few tips and tricks to have a slightly above average finals week.

The Fanny Pack Revolution

Whenever I think of a fanny pack I think of a mom at a garage sale, it may be because that is the only time my mom ever wore a fanny pack. But as I delve further into the different styles that have been created for this year's runway there is so much more to work with. It is no longer just limited to the basic black canvas material there is so much more colors, styles, fabrics, etc. that make it a lot more user friendly.

But with their frightening past it can still be hard to know how to style. So follow these few tips and you will be sure to rock the world with your classy not trashy fanny pack.

The Melting Pot of Fashion

Growing up in New York (A.K.A. the melting pot) I have been exposed to so many different cultures. Having this opportunity is such a blessing and has allowed me to explore what else is beyond my personal bubble. When the Met Gala came along, one of my favorite fashion events, this year's theme sent a spark running through my veins. The theme was China:Through the looking glass and the outfits certainly didn't disappoint. But why stop at China? Plenty of other cultures have influenced our clothing today in beautiful ways.

The Desirables of April

Happy 20th Blog Post! For my twentieth blog post I wanted to do something a little different so I am going to do my April favorites, essentially the fashion pieces I have been loving this April.

Big Chunky Boyfriend Sweater
It is actually a little embarrassing how much I wore this sweater, but that doesn't mean I am going to stop. I bought this sweater from forever 21 after a year long search for the perfect oversized cardigan.  It is a thicker knit that helped keep me warm throughout the winter under my down jacket and now in the warmer months I wear it on its own.  The cream color makes it super easy to pair with any style, color, or pattern.

5 Secrets You Should Know When Thrift Shopping

Since Earth Day was this week I decided to do a post on tips for thrift shopping. Thrift shopping is a more eco-friendly and cheaper way to build your dream wardrobe. Although I would love to be an expert at this, there are not many thrift shops near me, so through research I have accumulated the top 5 tips when thrift shopping.

1. Have a Plan
Take a look at your closet and donate things that you don't really wear and trash the clothes that have stains, rips, holes, etc. After you emptied out your closet to the stuff that you truly like/love think about what you are missing, a nice trench coat? maybe denim shorts? When shopping keep theses pieces in mind so you don't go too crazy when you see the marked down prices.

What To Wear for Anxiety

This blog post is something that is a little more personal and will therefore be less formal. There are a lot of standards out there how to act, look, and even what you are supposed to like. All of this expectation can create anxiety, something I personally struggle with, the feeling of being trapped and only slowly regaining the grasp on reality. Where you then again find yourself locked within the "societal norm." It may be hard to find a mistake, but in 20 years are you gong to care about fitting in or doing something you love. You probably hear this everywhere and although it is important and you may try to do what you love, the truth is it is hard to put yourself out there and truly be yourself. Although this might sound materialistic or insensitive a great step is finding a new outfit. This is not to create a false confidence, but it is important to dress for yourself.

Brands You Will Be Proud To Wear

Shopping is a necessity for everyone, but we can make our own "necessity" a source of light and happiness for others helping them obtain the true need, health. While many top brands such as Versace and Michael Kors have given portions of their funds to charitable organizations there are many other smaller fashion brands that devote their business to greater causes.

Lemlem
http://www.lemlem.com
Started by Ethiopian born super model Liya Kebede, Lemlem is not a regular clothing brand instead it is a source of hope. Lemlem, meaning flourish or bloom, keeps the traditional weavers of Ethiopia from losing their jobs and to preserve the art of weaving. In addition to that Liya is trying to better the conditions for women during childbirth to save the mother's and child's life. The website includes women's & kid's clothing, accessories, and  home ware with a relaxed boho feel(& a lot of stripes).

Easter Clothing & Room Inspiration

Easter is really the first big event where you can show off your fun new spring clothes, so make it count. I will show you different outfits from casual to fancy to wear this upcoming Sunday and show you how you can decorate your room. Don't celebrate Easter? Not a problem! The decoration & outfits can be used for whatever you do or don't have planned.

Fancy

If you have something special planned or your in the mood to be fancy, a nice dress is the perfect solution. Floral is an obvious choice, but if you are searching for something different try crochet, lace, polka dots, stripes, or just a simple solid spring color. Since a lot of these involved patterns you want to keep it simple with accessories, I say go for some bracelets or a cute headband instead of a huge statement necklace.

How To Be Envied at Coachella

My friends think I am insane for not listening to music. Its no that I am opposed to music, but the farthest my efforts go of listening to it is opening my ears to whatever my mom has playing in the car. I have been wanting to change and explore the world of music, so I am starting with baby steps by doing a music festival fashion guide. This is the best opportunity to explore the freedom of fashion and wear the clothes you have stuffed in the back of your closet. (click on the photos to go straight to the website and purchase it)

Flower Crowns
Urban Outfitters $16
Let's be honest you have to be pretty confident to rock a flower crown on a day to day basis, but these festivals are great opportunities for you to wear those endless DIY flower crowns you made a couple years back(don't lie to yourself).

Spring Shoe Trends

March 20, the first day of spring, the birds are chirping the flowers are blooming, WAIT..WHAT IT'S SNOWING! Yep that is how we kicked off spring in New York, a snow storm, but I have closed all the binds and am pretending that it is beautiful and warm outside so I can complete this blog post without denial. If you are lucky enough to already have the warm weather or are also suffering from an extensive winter, you can rock these hot spring shoe trends sooner or later. As you know from my title this blog post is about the new shoe trends, but if you want to see what colors, patterns, and dress style to wear for spring, check out my previous blog post.

Woven Shoes
Of course you don't have to go this bold with the colors, but woven shoes are great for both casual and fancier events. They are especially practical for the spring & even summer allowing your feet to breath through the holes in the woven pattern.

Spring Trends

If you live on the east coast like me we can all agree this winter was BRUTAL! I am so over this cold weather and ready for the warm sunny days, so in order to kick in the new season in style here are some upcoming trends.(luckily they embrace comfort & style)

T-Shirt Dress

This trend has been around for a little while now, but it is here to stay this comfy & cute outfit is so easy & versatile. This piece's effortlessness also adds an edgy vibe. Pair these with some cute thigh high socks, a bold lip, half-up bun style, cool rings, and chunky boots.

Colors

From the spontaneous yellow, to cool blue, to the staples, black & white, this spring season has it all. If I am being perfectly honest I do not own a single piece of yellow clothing or jewelry, but seeing this color more and more I am sure it will soon make an appearance in my closet. Mustard yellow was great for fall & winter, but in the spring a fun pop of the bright canary yellow color will add a little quirkiness & maybe even a smile. My only tip for you is less is more when using this color. Try it in either  a nice spring dress or as an accent. On the opposite end of the spectrum black & white. Black & white has been done throughout winter & seems to be carrying its way to spring, but one that is more bright and clean is head-to-toe white. If yellow is too peppy & black & white is too stark go for a nice blue & white another big staple this spring.

Gingham

While plaid was all the rage in fall gingham is taking its place for spring. Gingham can be worn in an arrange of ways from girly to edgy. For a girlier look try to wear this fun print on skirts or dresses. For an edgier look try gingham printed pants. If you are somewhere in between wear gingham printed shirt or jacket.

There are tons of other spring trends out there, but these were just a few. I hope you enjoyed and try to rock some of these styles!

XOXO,
KD

What To Do With Your Old Magazines?

No matter what I do I can not bring myself to throw out my fashion magazines. Over the February Break I cleaned out my room by donating, throwing out, and organizing everything, I was surprised at how much I could let go , but the one thing left is a giant stack of Vogue, Instyle, & Teen Vogue, which I can not seem to part with. If you face the same dilemmas I do I have some great DIYs on how to recycle your old magazines and convince yourself they are worth keeping.

chapeaux

When scrolling through online shopping sites i come across words such as beret, bucket, cowboy, bowler, fedora, beanie, and no these are not some typos they are all different types of hats. I feel as though this accessory has been somewhat neglected, how many of you know what a cloche or Bretton hat looks like? Our hat problems will soon come to a close, because i will show you some different types of hats you can wear everyday, also showing you example outfits and style tips for each, but make sure to mix and match to achieve your own individual look.

TVs Influence on Fashion

Friends, How I Met your Mother, , Full House, Seinfeld, I can go on and on. The reason I mention all of these titles is because chances are these shows have made their way back into your vocabulary and free time. I too am guilty of watching constant reruns, but never realized their affect in recent fashion. These 'classic' sitcoms may have influenced your clothing choices in two possible ways, one that is much more obvious than the other.
Here is the obvious way first, graphic tees.  There are tons of graphic tees that either have the logo or references of the tv show that only fellow viewers will understand. Since graphic tees are a common clothing item they are a super easy and versatile piece.
If you want a cute & girly look you can pair your graphic tee tucked into a skater skirt (make sure not to pick a pattern that clashes), knee-high socks, chunky sandals, dainty jewelry, a curly ponytail, and a bold pink lip. (Of course the items you pair your tee with can vary based on the style and season).
On the opposite end of the spectrum, an edgier look, tie the bottom half of your tee into a little knot on the side to give an effortless look, pair it with dark wash/black knee ripped jeans, funky cat eye or round lens sunglasses, chunky boots, half up half bun do, keep your makeup neutral to lighten up the look.
